Reality is never exactly what we want it to be, but it is how it is and we should not only accept but embrace it. That’s the point where we can start building whatever we want as the architects of our lives. There are no limits, an immense ocean of possibilities and opportunities are there for anyone to take them.

Some would have it easier while others would struggle to achieve similar outcomes. Nobody said that life was fair, it never was and it will never be. Having difficulties is not bad news though. Complications make us work harder and, as a consequence, they make us stronger.

We can blame destiny or fate for any situation, but the power to change it is in our hands. Those who just accept it without any willingness to do anything about it can’t blame none but themselves.

Embracing current reality is not resigning about how it is, but acknowledging it as a starting point for the future you want.

Once we embrace our current situation, despite how bad it is, we can start making changes. Otherwise, you will most likely waste your time asking why is your life this way instead of doing something about it.

Reality + Dreams + Determination = Successful Life

— Ray Dalio

The next step is visualizing where you want to be. Imagine the future you would like to be in one year for now, in five years from now. It’s easier said than done but those who navigate in circles won’t find a place to land.

Finally, you need the determination to take the required steps to get to that future. This could even be more difficult, but the reward deserves the toughness.

The journey will be full of obstacles and pain but it wouldn’t be a worthwhile destination if it were easy. We need not only to overcome the pain but to learn about it.

Mistakes are our best teacher, don’t waste the opportunity of learning from the best instructor. After all, mistakes become progress, because they tell us where to redirect our boat.

Pain + Reflection = Progress

— Ray Dalio

Don’t wait to start this process. The best time you could do anything is today. The best day to plant the tree of your future is today because it leaves us the most time to collect the fruits of our efforts.

Life becomes wonderful when our expectations embrace reality.
